Muskingum Valley Park District Shares Trail Updates and Yearly Goals
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum Valley Park District met with Muskingum County Commissioners on January 16th to provide updates on their ongoing projects.
Russ Edgington, the Executive Director for the Muskingum Valley Park District, shared that the Putnam Greenway Recreational Trail is nearing completion. It is expected to be completed in the spring of this year.
“We’re going to be wrapping up the Putnam Greenway Recreational Trail. The construction has taken place most of the fall. The paving is all done so we’ll be coming back in and doing some landscaping work and then it’ll be open for public use. We’re also working on the Canal Park Trail. That is an Appalachian Community Grant funded project. About 1.2 million dollars. That will actually connect to the Putnam Greenway via the 6th Street bridge,” Edgington said.
The Canal Park Trail is currently in the design phase, with completion expected by October 2026. Looking forward, the park district’s primary goal this year is to finalize current projects while continuing to develop and improve recreational opportunities across the county.
“The biggest goal is to finalize some of these projects and continue working on our master plans. We have quite a few facilities throughout Muskingum County, and we’re hoping to bring them online so the public can enjoy the recreational benefits,” Edgington said.
The park district encourages the community to get outside and enjoy the area’s trails and parks, even during the colder months.
