The Reds Caravan Experience

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – WHIZ has been a Cincinnati Reds affiliate for generations and the connection goes beyond broadcasting.
Each winter, the Reds organization tours the Ohio Valley visiting affiliates and promoting the upcoming baseball season. The Reds Caravan appeared in Zanesville today and brought with them a dose of summer optimism into a city blanketed in snow.
“I think for us with the caravan, during the season, during the summer, you get fans coming from their homes down to see us at the ballpark and coming to see the club. And I think for this type of event, for the Reds Caravan, we’re basically travelling throughout Reds Country. And we’re taking baseball to their home. It’s kind of a swap, if you will. But it’s really a cool event. I think we’ve had tremendous success with this for the 20 years that I’ve been here,” Cincinnati Reds Radio Broadcaster Jeff Brantley said.
The caravan usually consists of members in the organization’s management, media representatives, and of course, a few players. Cincinnati Reds Radio Broadcaster Tommy Thrall shared how the caravan navigates through a variety of events to share the love of the game with kids of all ages.
“I think it’s awesome to be able to get out and see so many fans and all the communities that Reds Country reaches,” Thrall said. “I think that’s the thing that’s the most eye opening about it all; is to see how excited people are all over the place, when we come to town, it’s great because you know, you kind of… It’s easy throughout the course of the season to think about just the little bubble of Cincinnati and then you get out and realize how many people are really impacted and follow the team and it’s so good to be able to get out and to meet so many fans.”
Yesterday, the caravan made stops in Columbus, where they got to share fun stories about their jobs with children and learn how science can perform many roles in the sport, during a stop at COSI.
