New Hospice Facility to Enhance Care in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, OH – A new era of compassionate care is on the horizon as Genesis prepares to build a brand-new hospice care facility on Ashland Avenue in Zanesville.

The project comes as the Morrison House, Genesis’ current hospice unit, continues to age. The new facility will enhance hospice care services in the community and provide a more comforting environment for patients and their loved ones.

“The biggest enhancement will be more room for the families in the room with the patients. Currently, if you go to Morrison House, things are pretty tight. You get a couple of people in there and we’re tripping over each other. In the new facility, we’ll have a lot more room for the patient’s family to be able to stay in as well as a curtain to pull for privacy so we can provide personal care for the patient without having to ask the family to leave. The patients will be up against French doors that will open into a beautiful garden that will have semiprivate areas for them to be able to also be in nature.” Director of Genesis Cancer Services Palliative Medicine and Hospice Care Pebbles Kieber, said.

A major contribution from the Straker Foundation made this project possible leading to the new name: The Straker House. And thanks to the generosity of the Franciscan Sisters, Genesis Hospice was donated the land where the new Straker House will be built to provide a peaceful experience for families and patients.

“Literally thousands of people have been touched by services at the Morrison House over the last 30 some years. If you’ve ever had a loved one who passed away from a very serious illness, it’s a very difficult time for patients and their families. But the team does an amazing job, and it leaves an incredible memory for you and the families through the most difficult times in their life. Being able to sustain that mission in a new facility is priceless,” CEO of Genesis, Matt Perry said.

Construction on the new hospice facility is expected to begin by the end of this year.
