Maysville Looking to Make History, Bring Home Title to Southtown
SOUTH ZANESVILLE, OH
From the biggest shot in Maysville history, to the biggest game in Maysville history. A memorable heave from Gator Nichols has the Panthers back in the state championship game for the second straight year. Back in Southtown, the Panthers have now shifted their focus to Dayton on Friday afternoon.
“Yeah, you know, it’s easy getting guys ready to refocus again when you’re getting ready to go play for a state championship” says head coach Dave Brown. “When all that’s on the line, their focus is there, they really want to do their best to finish the job.”
The Panthers are used to this stage, having played in the state title game in 2024. But there are some key differences this year heading back to UD Arena.
“This time we’ve got a week to prepare instead of 12 hours. You know, I think after Friday night, you know, everyone was exhausted” continues Brown. “I know I was exhausted after that one with all the emotions and everything. So having a week to prepare, prepare for another really good basketball team in the state championship.”
But what can you expect from the Panthers against Glenville tomorrow afternoon? Exactly what you’ve seen from them all year long.
“We’re going to be who we are. You’re going to see Maysville style, you know, we’re going to run our offense, we’re going to run our typical sets, and play how we play.”
It’s hard o argue with the logic and strategy of the now two-time state finalists, who aren’t in this fight alone, with a very extended support along for the ride.
Referring to the Southtown community, Brown continues, “They’re like a sixth man. But that’s just a tribute to our kids and how great people they are. You know, people will get behind kids that work hard. You know, I think that’s why we have such a good community support. Again, it’s a blue collar community, we’ve got blue collar kids. I’m extremely proud of how far they’ve come this year.”
26 wins down, one more to go for the Panthers to be crowned state champions., when they face Glenville from UD Arena with a 4:15 tip off, and coverage begins at 3:45 pm on Z92 radio.
