A Perry County couple has been indicted on drug charges in connection with a meth lab bust in New Lexington.

The Perry County Grand Jury indicted Heather N. Jewell, 30, and Jeffery Knoefel, 36, each on one count of the illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine and illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacturing of meth.

The sheriff’s office said on May 6, sheriffs deputies went to the address of 500 Tile Plant Rd. in New Lexington to locate a male who was wanted on a felony warrant. When they arrived, Jewell allowed deputies to search for the wanted fugitive. While in the home, sheriff’s deputies observed items consistent with the production of methamphetamine found inside a child’s bedroom. Agents with the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force were called to the scene to investigate. As a result of their investigation, deputies arrested Jewell and Knoefel on charges relating to the production of methamphetamine.

Jewell has been arraigned in the Perry County Common Pleas Court and was released by the court on her own recognizance. Knoefel’s whereabouts are currently unknown and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Knoefel are urged to contact the Perry County Sheriffs Office, at 740-342-4123.
