Seniors play wheelchair baseball at Miracle Field

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local senior residents from the Zandex Facilities had some fun in the sun Friday morning playing wheelchair baseball.
The Muskingum Valley Miracle League welcomed the seniors to their ball field to hopefully bring back some memories, and play a game they may have not thought was possible at this point.
Tracy Rector, an administrator at Cedar Hill and Sterling Transitional Suites, said, the residents are getting out to do something that maybe brings some nostalgia.
“They may have used to be ball players when they were younger. It’s just a fun opportunity for them to try something they may have thought they could never do at this point,†said Rector.
Organizers hoped the outing would allow their residents to stay active, as well as provide them with therapy. Summer is often associated with baseball, and they planned to end these last days of summer with a grand slam.
Stoey Stout, Vice President of Zandex Healthcare, said it brings back a lot of great memories, and it’s energizing.
“These are the last days of summer. When I was a kid, and certainly a lot of folks were kids, summer and baseball went together. So that’s what were are all about today,†said Stout.
Administrators hope to keep planning and making this outing bigger every year.
