City Council to authorize the use of ohiocheckbook.com

Zanesville, Ohio-Â City Council members held a meeting on Monday night to discuss an ordinance authorizing the use of ohiocheckbook.com in partnership with the Ohio treasurer to advance open and transparent government.
Ohiocheckbook.com is a first of its kind government transparency website launched by the Ohio treasurer office. Â The website allows taxpayers to see how their money is being spent.
Joey Osborn, Zanesville City Council-At-Large said she’s been working on this project for a long time.
“In January when I was elected I started to reach out to the Ohio treasurers office and the mayor’s office,” said Osborn. Â “It was really something that I thought would be beneficial and we needed to learn more about.”
Osborn said that this will create transparency and will promote good will towards elected officials, especially since it will cost taxpayers nothing.
“Any folks that are interested in seeing how we spend our tax payer dollars can get on and see down to the penny what we are doing with it, what we are spending it on and why we are spending it that way.”
Osborn said that there will be information dating back three years on the website and that information pertaining to the city of Zanesville will go live on ohiocheckbook.com in a few weeks.
