DAR to Unveil Patriots Marker

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The American Revolution began April 19th, 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts, when British Soldiers fired on American Colonists.

Muskingum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Member Mary Ann DeVolld announced the upcoming unveiling of a Revolutionary War marker to be placed at the Muskingum County Courthouse.

“This Friday, we are dedicating a patriots marker, it’s a Revolutionary War Patriots Marker on the Muskingum County Courthouse,” Devolld said. “And that will take place at 10:30 a.m. We have some local dignitaries and some state… Ohio Daughters coming to help us with this. It’s something that started back in 2020 by the national daughters.”

The DAR was founded in 1890 to celebrate America’s revolution and promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Even though Ohio wasn’t one of the original 13 colonies, the marker recognizes the important role the Ohio frontier played during the revolution.

“It thanks, in general, the revolutionary patriots and that’s not just the soldiers,” Devolld said. “It’s anyone who supported the American Revolution. What we… the liberty that we wanted in our nation. So you’ll see this beautiful… they’ve already placed the post down there. And anybody who goes to the courthouse, I just hope you’ll walk around and look at all of the monuments and memorials that are there because they really tell you a story of the history.”

The Muskingum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution invites everyone to witness the unveiling of the Patriots Marker 10:30 this Friday morning and encourages them to see all the historical displays that honor the efforts made by prior generations to ensure our freedoms.
