Caldwell Breaks Ground on Downtown Revitalization Project

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Village of Caldwell broke ground Thursday morning on a revitalization project years in the making.

Community members, local leaders, and project developers gathered in front of the Noble County Courthouse to celebrate the occasion and look ahead to the future of Caldwell.

“We were awarded a grant through the Appalachian Community Grant Program, and we’ve been working on the dream, the vision of this since 2021, and so it was really exciting not knowing that eventually we would end up getting the money to make this dream, this vision a reality,” Caldwell Mayor Misty Wells said.

The Village of Caldwell thrives on small, family-owned businesses. With new renovations on the way, community leaders hope to boost local tourism and strengthen the economy. Plans include additional gathering spaces and upgraded lighting, all part of an effort to honor, not change, the charm of small-town Caldwell, while showcasing its rich history.

“Our firm is designing all of the improvements here, and we’re working through all the construction documents and everything right now. The project will start construction likely next month,” said Matt Leasure, principal landscape architect at Designing Local. “The square really gets completely reconstructed, including new sidewalks, new amenities like lighting, seating…all kinds of things to support various festivals and day-to-day activities and really give people a place to hang out. Lots of fun things to do here in the square,” Leasure added.

Construction is expected to be completed by late next summer or early fall.
