ZANESVILLE,  Ohio – Jeff Jadwin with the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency has an update on recovery efforts as returning floods impede progress.

On top of the Crooksville and Roseville flooding, the Chandlersville community and portions of East Pike saw high water. Jadwin says that several rescues had to be made in the last week because of people driving into high waters and advises people to turn around, don’t drown, if you see flooded roadways. According to Jadwin, the latest rounds of storms are delaying cleanup efforts but state agencies are getting involved to help the process.

“This keeps adding to all our problems. You know, trying to get to the debris cleaned up,” Jadwin said. “Because of the governor’s declaration, there’s ODOT and the National Guard are here to help with doing the cleanup.”

With all the rain softening the ground, Jadwin says it will be easier for trees to come crashing down in high winds. ODOT will be picking up curbside piles of materials from the cleanup efforts, but they do ask that you sort it as you bring it to the curb.

“Rubbish, or what we call trash, goes in one pile, metal in another, appliances go in a different pile because if it’s a refrigerator or freezer, the freon’s got to be removed before it can be disposed of,” Jadwin said.
