Licking County Seniors Ready to Show Out for 43rd Annual MVL vs. LCL All-Star Game

PATASKALA, OH

We are almost set for kickoff of the 43rd annual MVL vs. LCL all-star football classic, which is taking place this year at Licking Heights High School.

For some of these players set to suit up on Friday night, it’s just another step on their football journey. For many others, it is just the final chance to say that they can end their football careers on a winning note.

The Licking County team has stars hailing from five local schools: Granville, heath, Licking Valley, Newark, and Newark Catholic. Representing those schools are players who are ready to take the field for the final time on Friday.

It’s an honor for players like Heath’s Connor Corbett, who will don his team’s uniform once more before heading off to college in the fall.

“It makes me feel so surreal, because my uncle, J.R., he coached in this game” said Corbett. “I have a T-shirt that I still wear before I go to bed every night, and it has his name on the back. I’m so excited to play with these guys.”

Corbet would continue, saying that the moment isn’t lost on him that his final game in the helmet, pads, and jersey will be among the very best that the LCL has to offer.

“I’m going to give everything I have, every ounce of sweat, blood, and tears that I’ve had for the last four years for football. I’m going to let it all out in this game, and then have no regrets, that’s the goal.”

While it is the final time for these Licking County athletes to don their school’s helmets, it’s a first for a coach to call the shots and host the annual all-star classic.

“There’s kind of a legacy appeal to it from us as the coaching staff. I think our players are very excited, and I think they’re very motivated” says LCL and Licking Heights head coach Austin Drewyor.

“For a lot of them, it’s putting on the pads one more time, but I think they’re excited to represent the league and get us back in the win column.”

As many of these players are on the verge of taking the field on Friday night, Coach Drewyor just wants his players to take in the moment and the camaraderie on Friday night.

“I want them to have some brotherhood one more time. There’s no brotherhood like a football team. So to be a part of that brotherhood one more time, you know, there will be some relationships that I’m sure will last out of this game.”

On Friday night at 7 PM, it’s the final chance for the Licking County seniors to put on the uniforms for one final time. For those whose careers are coming to an end, they are eyeing a mark in the win column at the end of their playing days.

You can tune into the game on Z92 radio, with coverage beginning at 6:30 PM, live from Licking Heights High School in Pataskala.
