Over 100 courageous community members took a plunge into frigid waters for a good cause.

Buckeye Lake Winery held it’s 3rd Annual Polar Bear Plunge Sunday. The plunge had a little over 100 participants but, nearly 400 community members came out to support.

“I take a jump for kids. The kids that I support, to show them that it’s okay to take a risk and do the right thing,” said Perry County Judge, Luann Cooperrider.

“Actually for the last 3 years we’ve out here and have enjoyed doing this for the charities that they’ve decided to support,” said Buck Shaw.

Those same participants compared their experiences from last year.

“Well the water wasn’t as deep, it was nice actually to stay in the water than to get out in the frigate air. This year it was nicer to get out,” said Shaw.
”Well this year I thought it would be warmer but, it’s not but it’s deeper which is even better so you go under water it’s awesome,” said Judge Cooperrider.

All proceeds from the plunge will be donated to the Friends of Buckeye Lake Library for the second year.

“The library depends on local businesses for our help. To keep the doors of the library open. The event like this would help with about 15 to 20 percent of our operating expenses for the year so it’s a great fundraiser and but, it’s great to see adult people out here having a great time. You have to be a Buckeye Lake person to understand the craziness that goes on around here. But, it’s fabulous, these people are crazy,” president, friends of buckeye lake library, said Director, Pam Reed.

Reed said they look forward to have this for years to come.
