Tony Coury is sworn in as new police chief

ZANESVILLE, Ohio– The City of Zanesville now has a new police chief.

After 25 years of service to the department Tony Coury was sworn into office by Safety Director Fred Buck during a ceremony in City Council Chambers.Chief Coury described his career in one word, fast.

“It seems like just like week that I started,” Chief Coury said. “25 years have flown by. To me it’s not so much a job as it is somewhere I go everyday. I’ve never had one day that I felt like I didn’t like what I was doing.”

Chief Coury said in his new role he wants to continue moving forward and get into 21st century style policing.

“Continue to be a positive role model for everyone in the city. Enforce the laws and the rules here. I want to be somebody that people are not afraid to talk to. They can reach out to. I want the department to be transparent. Everyone that’s paying taxes, I want them to feel like they are getting something for their dollar,” Chief Coury said.

Public Safety Director Buck also swore in three new Zanesville police officers.
