Beat the Heat at the Dresden Swim Center

Dresden, OH- A heat advisory filled summer leaves Muskingum residents tasked with finding ways to stay cool.

The Dresden Swim Center can help pool goers beat the heat by taking a dip in the community pool. On especially hot days this summer, over 500 residents flocked to the Swim Center according to the pool’s Assistant Manager Heather Stewart. Cooling off in the Olympic sized pool can help residents avoid heat exhaustion and other heat related illnesses according to Dresden Swim Center Manager.

“(Stay cool) by jumping in the water, making sure that you’re drinking your water (and) staying hydrated,” Stewart said. “(And) not getting overheated on deck and then jumping in the water because that can be a little bit of a safety thing if you’re too hot and then jumping in. But just getting yourself cooled down by staying in the water and submerging up to your neck or even all the way under.”

While keeping cool is important, Stewart encourages pool goers to consider other safety factors while visiting the pool. For parents bringing their children to the pool, Stewart suggests keeping a close eye on children despite the presence of Lifeguards.

“If you have young children make sure you’re with them and you know where they’re at all the time,” Stewart said. “If you’re not a confident swimmer try and stay out of the diving well and if you need it, use the support of a life jacket. Those are always encouraged.”

While it is almost time for the pool to close as summer comes to an end and students prepare to return to school, the community pool will be open until Aug. 17. The pool is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week. To learn more about the pool and its upcoming events, visit their Facebook Page.
