Zanesville Veterans Day Parade still taking entries for this year

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Zanesville Rotary Club is preparing for this year’s Veterans Day Parade in downtown Zanesville.

The parade steps off Saturday, November 8, at 11 a.m. from Secrest Auditorium. The route will travel up Shinnick, then 5th Street, before ending on 3rd Street. Organizers plan to arrive at the courthouse by 11:11 for a moment of silence. Last year’s parade featured more than 100 entries, including floats, motorcycles, and marching bands.

“The Rotary Club of Zanesville started managing the parade about three years ago, the veterans council and the veteran community in the area was doing it for many years, so we just thought it was an opportunity to jump in, help them out, take a little bit of the load off of them and let them enjoy the parade rather than being on the management side of it, so the Rotary Club has kind of took that on and has enjoyed being a part of it ever since,” said Rotary Club of Zanesville Daybreak President, Brent Mirgon.

Mirgon says the event is more than just a parade to the community. “Our veterans are the backbone of our country, I’m a veteran, my sons in the military, so it’s got a special place for myself, but it’s just a way to celebrate our veterans, what they’ve done for us, how we’ve gotten to where we are and how we’ll continue to grow together.”

The parade is still accepting entries. It’s free to participate, and you can sign up at visitzanesville.com/Veterans-Day-Parade or by emailing ZanesvilleVeteransParade@gmail.com.
