Putting the Fun in Fundraising

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Getting diagnosed with breast cancer is difficult but dealing with inadequate health insurance only aggravates the circumstance.

The 11th Annual Strike Out Breast Cancer bowling tournament is a fundraising event that will take place noon Saturday, February 7th, at the Sunrise Bowling Center, located on the East Pike.

“So one of the biggest things with cancer treatment is something called financial toxicity,” Genesis Healthcare Cancer Center Director Pebbles Kieber said. “So even if you have insurance, you have out-of-pocket costs or deductibles or things like that. And those aren’t the things that people talk about because you’re fighting for your life. You don’t really want to talk about the checkbook in that moment. But the unfortunate reality is that people do need help and they need financial help.” And 9.5 times out of 10 there is some resource out there that we can help you with, including the funds that we are getting from this tournament. You know we have access to those things but we don’t know unless you speak up and tell us.”

The bowling tournament is full but the lanes have plenty of room for the other fun activities that are always held in conjunction with the event.

“We always have a great silent auction. We have the Buck-I-Guy. He’s going to be there with all Ohio State items for sale. He always has some great things and he always donates part of that to the cause. This year new, we have Texas Roadhouse is going to be participating and Andy the Armadillo is going to be there. They’re going to have a game and a way to raise money that way,” Strike Out Breast Cancer Chair Tammy Ansberry-Hildenbrand said.

Genesis Cancer Center will also have an information table to answer questions and direct you to available resources. So with winter in full swing, heading out to the lanes will be a great way to beat cabin fever, while helping out neighbors in need.
