Abandoned hotel to be demolished on East Pike

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Land Reutilization Corporation held its monthly meeting today, with major milestones reached for several projects.

The organization better known as the land bank has announced seven demolition bids that were awarded in projects ranging from the various houses to the abandoned Holiday Inn on East Pike.

“The former hotel was awarded to Lubergh Incorporated of Zanesville in the amount of $422,200. That included grading some of the site up to make it more marketable,” said Andy Roberts, executive director for the Land Bank. “With the Holiday Inn property, once we get it demolished, we will be looking at redevelopment on that site as well some of the adjacent ground as well.”

The property was acquired by the Land Bank in January and the demolition will be funded through state grants. The demolition bids were chosen for these projects with local businesses being prioritized and grant funding deadlines also playing a role.

“We provide a 5% variance for any local bidder, anyone who’s headquartered inside Muskingum County,” Roberts said. “With the hotel bid, we did take into consideration the time frame in which they were able to do itas well.”

The property contains about 6 acres and nearly a mile of Interstate-70 frontage, when adding in its two adjacent properties. The property is across the street from the National Road Business Park.
