Keeping Pipes from Freezing
This is the time of year when you need to start checking your pipes to make sure they won’t freeze.
Mr. Rooter’s Plumbing owner, Pat Durant, says temperatures over the past several days are perfect for causing problems for some homeowners.
"Most of the time, it’s when air gets in through where the foundation meets the house, and even though it’s a basement and it’s heated, the air comes through, and it can freeze the pipes that happen to be on the outside wall, " says Durant.
There’s visible signs that will let you know if you’re having problems with your pipes.
"You’re going to lose water. You won’t be able to get anymore water out of the pipe. Then if it goes too long, they’re going to freeze and bust, " says Durant.
Durant says you can combat frozen pipes by keeping your heat on, checking insulation, and filling visible holes in your home.
