Douglas Ramsay

Doug Ramsay

Taking his final adventure, Douglas Lee Ramsay, traveled to heaven on Monday, March 30, 2026.

He was born in Kanab, Utah on September 22, 1941, to Bertha Merrill and Arthur Grant Ramsay. He grew up in Southern Utah, the youngest of nine children. He went to Glendale Elementary and graduated from Valley High School. He then attended the University of Utah, where he met his wife, Sharon McQuivey, and received his bachelor (B.S.) degree. They were married in 1964 and went on to the University of Michigan, and he received his dental (D.D.S.) degree. He served in the United States Army in Hawaii for a few years as a dentist, and then went back to Michigan to receive his Master’s degree in orthodontics. They then moved to Zanesville, Ohio and he practiced orthodontics for nearly 50 years. He also helped start Zandex, Inc., a company providing nursing home and assisted living care.

He was very active in the community over the years serving on various boards and foundations. He participated in Zanesville Community Theatre, was involved in swimming organizations as an official and later as a high school coach, and for 28 years served on the West Muskingum School Board. He also served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities. Two of his favorite callings were Elder’s Quorum President and Branch President for the Coshocton congregation.

The community became his extended family and he loved his associations with a variety of people. He really enjoyed his many co-workers, church friends, his teenage patients and their families. Some of his greatest friendships were based on those relationships.

He loved traveling with his family and they had adventures in many parts of the world. He was proud to have visited all seven of the continents. He also enjoyed things like beautiful flowers, a nice sports car, watching movies, Michigan football, Taco Bell and Skittles.

Doug and Sharon were blessed with four daughters, but his wife died of cancer in 1977 and he never remarried. Over the years he hosted 18 exchange students from various countries. They also became like family to him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and seven of his siblings.

He is survived by his four daughters: Tera Thorderson (P. Kurt), Leta Fuller (Michael), Rema Robinson (Nathan), and Dela Ivie (Curt) and his one remaining sister, Edith Mills. He has a legacy of 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM on Friday, April 3 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday at The Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints Church, 3300 Kearns Drive, Zanesville with Bishop Jacob Hirtle officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
