Mattingly Foods Cash n’ Carry to close

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- If you grew up in the Zanesville area, there is one community staple that you may recall– but a memory, is soon, all it will be.
Mattingly Foods Cash n’ Carry will be closing their doors for good; a decision that the executive vice president and grandson of the founder, said was a very difficult one to make.
“You know we had a really good run, we had great support from the community for the last almost 40 years and it was just getting really tough to compete with some of the other big box stores, so it was a very tough decision for us to do,” said Ben Hess, Executive Vice President of Mattingly Foods Cash n’ Carry.
The store opened in 1978, as an extension of the original seafood market that was established in 1947 by Bob and Bette Mattingly; better known as Mattingly Seafood.
Hess said though difficult, it was the best business decision.
“So as hard as this is, this was the legacy my grandfather left behind, something we really wanted to continue on, but it just didnt make sense anymore,” said Hess.
The store will be offering a retirement sale of 20 percent off all of their inventory; including one item that the community is most familiar with.
“We still have the full line of our inventory, including the school pizzas, so we’re going to continue to have those in probably until the last day we’re here,” said Hess.
They aim to close their doors by June 30th.
“It is a business decision, but that doesn’t mean it makes the decision any easier,” said Hess.
However, the Mattingly’s name will live on as the cold storage and warehouses services will remain in business.
