Chevy Shoemake

Chevy Shoemake, age 35, of New Concord passed away at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His family was by his side. Chevy was born to Dena Hartman and the late Ty Shoemake on July 3, 1990 in Houston, Texas.
Chevy graduated from John Glenn High School in 2008, where he played football and wrestled. After high school, Chevy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was deployed to Afghanistan from 2009-2010. Chevy loved working with children and spent several years as the Mini Muskie Mascot and helping coach the youth tackle football team at John Glenn. The kids loved him and he made each one feel special by having a different secret handshake for every single one. In his free time, Chevy enjoyed long boarding, going on adventures, and driving around in pride and joy; a 2020 Dodge Charger Daytona (1 of only 500 produced). In 2022, he was the High Dive Champion at the Cambridge Pool. He was an incredible talented artist, often drawing for friends and family. More than anything, Chevy loved spending time with his own children.
Chevy is survived by his loving wife, Amanda (Cox) Shoemake, whom me married on November 5, 2022; his mother, Dena (Kevin) Hartman; children, Conner, Nic, and Sophia; sister, Danielle Hartman; stepbrothers, Cory (Ashley) Hartman and Cody (Tiffany) Hartman; mother of his children, Jess (Daniel) Spiker; maternal grandmother, Betty (Lyle) Bryant; uncles, Denny (Lynn) Lindsay and Jimmy Lindsay; cousins, Lindsay (Josh) Kline and Shawnee Moore; and his beloved cat, Bagheera. He also leaves behind numerous other extended family members and more friends than anyone could ever count.
In addition to his father, Chevy is preceded in death by his aunts, Dana Moore and Christy Lindsay; and paternal grandparents, Bobbi Burgin and JB Shoemake.
The family would like to give special thanks to Chevy’s oncology team and Dr. Gabriel Tinoco at the James Cancer Center for all their hard work and support during this journey.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Chevy’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to support the Mini Muskies Tackle Football and Cheerleaders at https://www.jgminimuskies.com/donate
