William Knuff

Knuff William Photo

William A. “Bill” Knuff, 81, passed peacefully at home on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his family and the love of a life well lived, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 18, 1944, Bill answered his country’s call and served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, earning the rank of Captain. He carried his military service quietly — it was simply part of who he was, woven into the discipline, dependability, and quiet strength that defined him in everything he did.
In 1981, Bill founded and became President of Medallion Lighting Corp., a role he held with the same steady, hardworking character he brought to all corners of his life. But if you really wanted to understand Bill Knuff, you had to see him with a hammer in his hand, or on a mower, or halfway up a tree. There was nothing he couldn’t build or fix. A longtime resident of the Cleveland, Ohio area, Bill eventually found his true home on a beautiful wooded property in Cambridge, Ohio, where he spent his days making nature more beautiful. He fed the deer every morning at dawn. He improved every piece of land and every house he ever touched.
In Cambridge, Bill built something even more lasting than anything made of wood or stone: a family. Neighbors became children. Everyone, it seemed, had a “dad” in Bill Knuff.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette; his children, William P. Knuff (Deborah), Denise M. Knuff, and David M. Knuff (Michelle); his stepchildren, Kimberly Yanoscik (Michael), Jayson Schneider (Paula), Natalie Seese (Bill), Domonic DeLuca (Kelly), Tommy Landen (Donna), Sherry Landen, and Lori Landen; his sisters, Mary Kay Gurbis (Alexander) and Theresa O’Connor (Dan); and his loyal companion, Sissi, who never left his side. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who were fortunate enough to call him theirs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Rita C. Knuff, and his brother, Richard.
Those who knew Bill considered him invincible — always moving, always building, always there when you needed him. He was honest, hardworking, and stubborn as the day is long, and nobody loved him any less for it. He had a quiet tenderness for animals that might have surprised those who only knew his strength — a long line of beloved dogs and cats over the years, and those deer who came to the yard every morning because Bill made sure they would.
He was a man of his word, respected by everyone who crossed his path, and beloved by more people than he probably ever knew.
Captain Knuff, you will be deeply missed.
