NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Muskingum University’s second turf field is just about complete and soccer camps are helping to christen the new field.

The new facility on the north end of campus is a rarity for NCAA Division III schools. It will be used as the home field for the school’s lacrosse and soccer programs. It will also have football lines on it so Al Logan’s team can practice there.

The finishing touches are being put on the turf field now. One of the first events to get to take place on the field was Muskie soccer coach Chris Limle’s summer soccer camp. He’s hopeful that the new turf field will help build the Muskie soccer program.

Monday and Tuesday we had some kids in from around the country, and some local kids as well, for our college prep camp and we got to use the facility and it was great. The response from the kids afterwards was phenomenal. They talked about how they didn’t feel like their legs were heavy because the turf is FIFA approved. And having that ability to be out there and not have the little bumps and bounces like in a grass field changed everything. And the level of play definitely rose. That’s for sure,” Limle said.

The Muskie’s men’s soccer team will first play at the new field on September 6 against Bethany.
