Donald’s Donuts Voted Best in America
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local doughnut shop has been voted number one in the country for the second year in a row.
Donald’s Donuts on Maple Avenue has been a family run business since 1960 and Second Generation Owner Tom Warne expressed gratitude toward the loyal customers who appreciate his products and have demonstrated it with their vote in a USA Today readers poll.
“Well, it’s exciting,” Warne said. “You know we got on the list last year through a food influencer in Columbus and I didn’t even know it existed, honestly. And the, the kind of, the Donald’s Donuts army showed up you know. We shared that we were, you know, in the running and then we were just number one the whole time. Just everyone telling their friends to vote early, vote often you know that sort of thing. So yeah, it’s just been fantastic.”
Warne said there’s no secret ingredients or special cooking techniques but believes their product stands out because of the attention to detail that is observed throughout the process. And the flavor that added attention reveals, is the effort that was put into making that delicious experience possible.
“It’s just great satisfaction. You know I’ve been doing this all my life. You know I’ve been doing this four and a half decades. You know so it’s the… just the satisfaction that people appreciate what you do. You know, I love this community. This community’s been great to me and that’s why I give back so much to the community. Because without them we’d be nothing you know. So you know working hard and contributing to Zanesville and Muskingum County… community is what gives us satisfaction,” Warne said.
Doughnut production begins each morning shortly after midnight so that the doors can open at 5. Monday through Saturday they’re open from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. unless they sell out earlier. And Sunday hours are from 6 a.m. until Noon.
