Camp Wheeze-Away kicks off at Wolfie’s Campground

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Camp Wheeze-Away kicked off today at Wolfie’s Campground, offering summer fun for local children with asthma.
The two-day camp brought 17 children ages 7 to 12 to the Zanesville campground for hiking, crafts, and games. Rambo Memorial Health Center runs the camp and, as Executive Director Shannon Bell explains, it’s all about being active and feeling involved.
“Our goal is to let kids know that just because you have asthma, it doesn’t mean that you have to be left out of activities,” Bell said. “So we pack two full days of activities, outdoors and indoors, and we keep them moving. And we want them to know that they can be involved in anything that they choose to, as long as their asthma is under control. ”
Kevin Strope is the owner of Wolfie’s Campground, the only campground within Zanesville’s city limits. This is the second year in a row that Camp Wheeze-Away has made a visit to Wolfie’s and Strope is excited to partner with Rambo Memorial Health for the event.
“It’s great. The kids have a really good time. They enjoy the pool and the gem mining’s a big hit. They like doing that as well as the playground,” Strope said. “So yeah, it’s just an opportunity to work with the community and have some of the local members of the community visit our campground and enjoy some of the amenities that we have to offer.”
Camp Wheeze-Away is sponsored by Coca-Cola and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Other activities during the camp include a visit from the Zanesville Fire Department, a Coca-Cola semi-truck, and a trip to the bowling alley.
