In Loving Memory of Doris Diane Penrod

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Diane Penrod, of Crooksville, Ohio, on June 24, 2026. Born on July 4, 1951, in Zanesville to the late Laird and Jennie (Mack) Jirles, Diane lived a life rooted in love, family, hard work, and faith. She is now reunited with her beloved parents and welcomed into God’s eternal kingdom. Diane devoted much of her life to caring for her family as a homemaker, a role she cherished above all others. She later worked at 5 Bees and spent many years at the former Julie’s Dairy Cream in Crooksville, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. Gifted with a talent for sewing, Diane was an accomplished seamstress who lovingly created wedding dresses and countless pieces of clothing for family and friends. A passionate gardener, Diane found joy in nurturing both flowers and vegetable gardens. She took great pride in the fruits of her labor, spending summers tending her gardens, canning vegetables, and preparing homemade sauces for those she loved. Her home was always filled with warmth, generosity, and the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals. Diane also found serenity in the simple pleasures of camping and enjoying the outdoors. A proud graduate of Crooksville High School’s Class of 1969, Diane met the love of her life, Melvin “Wayne” Penrod, during her school years. Together they shared 55 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, devotion, and enduring love. Diane leaves behind her loving husband, Wayne; her children, Eric Penrod (Jayne), Darlene Hartley (Donald), and Chad Penrod (Kasey); and her cherished grandchildren, Kayla Bateson (Anthony), Konor Penrod (Elizabeth), Joey Penrod (Jenny), Abby Penrod (Justin Hrinko), and Parker and Irelyn Hartley. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Kohen and Kinsley Bateson and Robin Penrod. Those who knew Diane will remember her not only for her kindness and unwavering love for her family, but also for the special traditions she created. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and her orange cookies, raisin cookies, and the family’s secret spaghetti sauce brought generations together around the table. These treasured recipes, along with the memories made while sharing them, will continue to be a lasting reminder of her love. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that Diane’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the traditions she passed down, and the countless lives she touched with her generosity, warmth, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, beginning at 1:00pm at the Maple Ave Christian Church, 112 Maple Ave, Crooksville. Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 207 Burley Street, Crooksville, is caring for the Penrod Family. You may sign the online register book at www.ross-frashfuneralhomes.com
