McCoy Collectors Showcase Ohio History

ZANESVILLE, OH – As pottery lovers gather in Zanesville this week, one local collection is taking visitors back more than a century.
While the Pottery Lovers Convention is underway nearby, members of the McCoy Collectors Society are also welcoming visitors at the Quality Inn in Zanesville. Collectors are displaying and selling McCoy pottery while sharing the history behind one of Ohio’s most recognizable pottery brands.
“McCoy Pottery produced more pottery in the area than any other pottery. There is something for everyone. From the simplest of forms, to the most decorative forms of pottery. You will find something that you love. We all collect different lines and different areas of pottery.” President, McCoy Collectors Society, Debbie Karnes said.
McCoy Pottery was founded in 1910 by Nelson McCoy Sr. in nearby Roseville, Ohio, making it a treasured piece of local history that continues to draw collectors more than a century later.
“It was produced here. It was not imported from China like so many things you buy at Walmart today. They’re actual people that produced and made it. Some of those people are still alive today to talk about it.” Karnes said.
An online McCoy Pottery auction is also happening Wednesday, July 15th. Collectors can preview the pieces from noon to 2 p.m. at the Koehler Auction House in Roseville before the online auction closes at 6 p.m. that evening.
