Hundreds of kids attend the VFW’s summer party

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The VFW Post 1058 just held their 5th annual Kids’ Summer Party on Saturday.

The Summer Party had everything you would want on a hot summer day. With a water bounce house, games, and more.

This year focused on Back to School. The event had free food, face painting, prizes, and back-to-school bags for more than 430 kids.

“We like to give back to community, and a lot of these kids don’t get to do things. So we open it to them so they can come have fun,” said Tina Wartenbee, the canteen manager at the VFW post.

Everyone at the party was smiling and having a lot of family fun, which is why the local VFW post is so motivated to continue this tradition every summer. The summer party tradition aims to give kids an opportunity for summer fun that could be out of reach for some.

“We live our post is in a community where it is a lower poverty community, and a lot of kids that are the parents are strapped on income, can’t afford to go to the beach or take a vacation or take them to a public pool,” said Shaila Worden, the assistant manager of VFW Post 1058. “So we come up with this idea five years ago and it just keeps getting bigger. with each year. We learn from each previous year it’s not perfect by no means. Mistakes that we made last year. We have moved forward. And when things different and it seems to, it seems to be a lot.

Between the high turnout, sponsor support, and community support, VFW Post 1058 is excited to get to work on the 6th annual Kids’ Summer Party.
