Y-City Barbershop Chorus Ready to Get Toes Tapping at Annual Concert
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Y-City Barbershop Chorus is gearing up for their annual concert this weekend!
The concert will take place on Sunday beginning at 3PM at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center.
Troy Ball, who sings Lead, says the concert usually takes place at Secrest Auditorium, but due to the ongoing renovations, they had to choose another location.
He says they will be singing a selection of songs that are sure to get your toes tapping and you swaying in your seat.
“Well we do some barbershop style songs and then we’re doing some modern songs too, like we’re doing Tina Turners’ “Proud Mary” and that’s always a fun one and the audience always enjoys it.” Ball said. “We’re also going to have a guest quartet, they’re called the Hot Air Buffons, it’s a comedic quartet and they’re from here in Ohio. Some are from Cleveland and I’m not sure where the rest are from, but then we’re also going to have. Our director is also the director of a female chorus in Newark and they’re going to sing a couple of songs with us and they’re going to be singing a couple of songs with us, kind of in between the two halves of the show.”
Kevin Colopy, who sings Tenor, says he’s been singing barbershop for 44 years now and the love just continues to grow.
He says though it’s the friendships with the other members bring to the group that keeps him coming back to perform for the community.
“40 is a pretty high number but when you ask people how long they’ve been in the society, you’ll have large, large numbers and there’s a lot of types of organizations that you get into that you can’t support those kinds of numbers.” Colopy said. “So it has to be life giving to be able to say those kinds of numbers and this is comradery, it’s a brotherhood, we do lots of good things as far as going into the community and singing at nursing homes during the winter time, Christmas songs and things of that nature. It’s just a great, great group of people.”
Tickets for the Y-City Barbershop Chorus Concert at $15 for adults and $12 for students.
