High school basketball player of the week – Ethan Heller

THORNVILLE, Ohio — Sheridan junior Ethan Heller has been voted the WHIZ-TV high school basketball player of the week.
Last week Heller scored 37 points in a road win against Maysville, while adding another 26 points in the Generals win over the Northridge Vikings. The junior also became the schools all-time leader in three-point makes– still with another full season to play next year.
The humble Heller though once again gave credit to his teammates and coaches when asked about what he attributed to his success.
“Just my teammates and coaches getting me open again. I mean we had good ball movement and that just lead to open shots,” Heller explained.
When asked about his individual record for three-point makes, Heller explained it means a lot, but winning with his teammates is his number-one priority.
“I mean it’s nice having it, but I just want to keep winning. I want our team to keep playing well together and that’s all that matters to me.”
It’s the second time this season that Heller has taken home Player of the Week honors. He says the support he receives from everyone surrounding him is special, and he takes pride in being a role model for his family and the community.
“I’m really happy that people voted for me. I’m very thankful and I just want to make my family proud, and the community proud, and I just want to be a good role model for the younger guys too,” said Heller.
After a tough win against Fairfield Union on Monday night, Sheridan wrapped up their regular season with a 19-3 record. They finished ranked in the Division-II state AP poll, and take on Marietta Saturday evening as they begin their post-season run.
Heller says that his team has been playing well, and he hopes they can continue what has helped them earn 15 wins in their last 16 games.
“Just effort. Offensive and defensive rebounding has been good, defense has been really good. We’re excited for the tournament. It’s the best time right here and we’ve got to take advantage of where we’re at seeding wise, so we’ve just got to get the job done,” Heller said.
As for the Generals opponent this weekend.
“They’re a solid team. They shoot the ball really well, good ball movement. They like to get up and down so we’ve just got to match that and be able to handle it,” said Heller as he described his Saturday foe.
Sheridan’s match-up with Marietta tips off at 3PM on Saturday at Logan High School. The winner will advance to the District Semifinal where they will face the winner of Friday night’s game between Waverly and Jackson.
