Federal dollars going to Ohio for flood and disaster relief

Riverside 2

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- President Donald Trump has approved a disaster declaration for 18 Ohio counties hit by sever storms and flooding in February.

Muskingum, Noble, and Perry County will all receive federal funds for emergency work and repairs to roads, parks, and buildings damaged due to the weather. Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency Director Jeff Jadwin said this money is crucial in helping repair things such as Riverside Park.

“You go up to Riverside Park, its been underwater pretty much since then. So getting all the trees that have come down, the debris, getting all that cleaned up was covered under this,” said Jadwin

Jadwin said Muskingum County will receive between $750,000 and $1 million from the federal government. He said this will help pay 75 percent of the repairs saving the counties, cities, and townships of Ohio thousands to millions of tax dollars.

“When you’re looking at a million dollars, and you’ve got to take that out of your budget, something else is going to suffer. I’ve heard from other counties that they would have to cancel, if they did not get this money, all their paving projects because they couldn’t afford to do the repairs and do paving also,” said Jadwin.

Jadwin expects the repairs to take months to be fully completed but, this disaster declaration will help agency.
