Leadership Muskingum graduation celebration

Leadersip Award

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The largest class in the history of the Leadership Muskingum Program graduated on May 18th.

25 graduates celebrated their completion of a nine-month leadership program. Member of the Leadership Muskingum Alumni Committee, Thasia Schilling said during this program local people from community organizations and businesses meet once a month to learn about several things including education, healthcare, and of course leadership.

“They also learn to network and become cohesive, so hopefully, if they have struggles or opportunities within their organization. They’re able to reach out to people they’ve met, people who have talked to them, the people who presented to them, and possibly put some of their training to good use,” said Schilling.

The Leadership Muskingum Program started 20 years ago back in 1998. Schilling said the program teaches people how to be leaders in the community as well as being a leader in the workforce.

“It kind of builds capacity to give leadership and to bring networking to each and every one of them. So, it does help the organizations because that way they have the knowledge of what’s going on around them,” said Schilling.

The featured keynote speaker for the event was the dean of Ohio University Zanesville, Doctor Jeremy Webster. He spoke about community leadership and the changing future of the workforce.
