Waiving Palms in Morgan County
Local churches in the city of Malta are teaming together to spread the meaning behind Palm Sunday.
The weather slimmed the group of usually 50 people to around 15. They gathered outside Malta United Methodist Church to re-enact Jesus’ walk and entry into Jerusalem.
"We want the public to know that he’s still the risen Lord, still alive, still loves his people, still wants to make a difference in our lives. We want to give him an opportunity to use us to touch somebody that may be in need, " says pastor William Bentley.
Bentley says there isn’t just religious significance behind this event.
"If they rode into town on a colt-a donkey-it was a sign they were coming in peace. If they rode into town on a charger-a white steed-it was a sign they were coming for war to take over. Jesus was obviously showing the Romans and the world that he was coming in peace, " says Bentley.
After walking from Malta to McConnelsville, the group ended their trek at Cornerstone South Church, where a service was held.
Palm Sunday kicks off a week of events that lead to Easter Sunday.
