Home Foreclosures Still Problem
You may not be aware of it, but there’s a number of people losing their homes throughout Muskingum County not because of fire but for economic reasons.
The southern region manager for EASOP met with county commissioners this morning to discuss the current state of foreclosures.
"Right now, just in 2010-and we’re not very far into 2010-there’s been 625 homes in Muskingum County alone that have gone on the auction block. So, anyone who believes that the foreclosure crisis is over hasn’t been paying attention, " says Shane Lightle.
However, EASOP is trying to offer a better option to homeowners.
"Anyone who is in jeopardy of even falling behind on their home loan, anyone in delinquency, or anyone who may have a sheriff sale next week can come into EASOP and we can provide the homeowner with the tools and resources necessary to modify their loans so that it’s sustainable and affordable to them, " says Lightle.
The organization has an 85 percent success rate.
It is asking the commissioners for support during a troubled time. EASOP is funded by federal stimulus money that is about to expire. It will be renewed but only to five-states that does not include Ohio. So, Lightle is asking the commissioners to support Ohio Senate Bill 197 that would supplement funding and help EASOP not close as many offices across the state. For more information call 740 617-4228.
