Zanesville Woman Tended To Wounded At Ft. Hood

A 13th victim of the Fort Hood mass shooting died today and 28 are still in the hospital.

Zanesville’s Cathy Colen, a medic in the Army, was one floor above where the shooting took place and immediately tended to the wounded.

"My sister has always been a hero, she has always been my hero. She has done everything right so far," tells Private Robert Tompkins, Cathy’s brother.

Her brother, a Private in the Army, says she saved a lot of lives yesterday. Cathy’s mother has been in contact with Cathy since the shooting and is keeping family members in Zanesville informed with how Cathy is doing.

"This morning she called me and said that Cathy was doing well, she is still kind of down on spirits a bit, but the army will pick her back up, brush her off and keep her going," says Robert Tompkins Senior, Cathy’s father.

Cathy’s father says no one from the Army has contacted him yet about Cathy’s health, even though she was on the base at the time of the shooting. He has not had direct contact with her yet, but wants to send her a simple message.

"If you see this honey, I love you and I am proud," says Tompkins Sr.

He says his Cathy is a tough girl and will likely continue with her career in the army.
