Turn Your Headlights on When Using Windshield Wipers
Starting Friday if you don’t have your lights on when your windshield wipers are on you are breaking the law.
Law enforcement agencies across the state want to make all drivers aware of the new law.
"Any new law it’s going to take some education for all drivers to get on board with it and as of police officers we’re aware of it," Sgt. Merryman said.
Sgt. Chuck Merryman from the Zanesvile Post of the State Highway Patrol says it’s a secondary offense just like a seat belt violation.
"Basically we have primary and secondary offenses. Primary offenses are things that people do that we can stop people for such as speeding tickets or driving left of center something like that. Secondary offenses are kinda like a safety belt. There has to be a primary offense that we have stopped the vehicle for before we can issue a citation for the secondary," Stg.Merryman said.
Friday if you don’t turn your headlights on when you use your windshield wipers you could get a ticket. Muskingum County has yet to determine how much the fine will be. Stg Merryman says fines vary depending on what county you are picked up in, but here in muskingum the fine will be around 100 bucks.
