Planting Trees for a Better Tomorrow
Volunteers got a jump on Arbor Day by planting sixty trees at Dillion Dam.
Twelve Tri-Valley students and five adult volunteers broke out their shovels to help the environment and celebrate Arbor Day a few weeks early.
"It was also to have the kids come out and learn how to plant trees and the reasons for Arbor Day and why we celebrate Arbor Day," says Bob Cifranic with the U.S. Army Core of Engineers.
It took the volunteers about four hours to plant the sixty trees. Cifranic says it is important to get young people involved in the environment so they know why it is important to cut back on fossil fuels, recycle and plant more trees once they become adults.
"Obviously with trees, they take in carbon dioxide, your green house gasses and they put out oxygen. They also provide us with shade and wind barrier and at the very least aesthetics," says Cifranic.
Arbor Day is officially the last Friday in April. Cifranic is a park ranger of 25 years and says it is a great experience to have kids come out, learn about the environment and have a good time.
