Airmen Receive CPR Training

When a person stops breathing every second counts.

To make sure its airmen know what to do, the Ohio Air National Guard held a CPR re-certification day for airmen and their families. The majority of airmen are required to be CPR certified.

"We deploy airmen around the world and we have electrician type skill sets where high voltage is involved and other skill sets where individuals who are in confined space and in both those environments, it is very possible someone could pass out or need CPR," says Lt. Col. Robert Panian.

The airmen received hands on training from experts with the American Red Cross. Lt. Col. Panian says the airmen are very receptive to the training and it prepares them for emergencies.

"In the state of Ohio, several Army National Guard and airman have stopped at the scenes of accidents and actually put those skills to work," says Lt. Col. Panian.

Around 65 airmen attended and were CPR re-certified.
