Ways to Get Rid of Your Pet’s Winter Coat.
Pet owners are dealing with serious shedding but one local salon says there are ways to control it.
Larry’s Pet Grooming Salon on Bluff Street can help you control all the hair. Groomer Dee Sims said it’s hard to keep up the shedding especially this time of year because as soon as the weather starts to change they begin losing their winter coat.
"If you haven’t had the dog groomed all winter long first thing your going to notice is the shedding. The first signs it looks like they have little toughs hanging everywhere thats when you know he’s actually shedding the undercoat. As soon as possible to get him in and get it stripped out. A lot of times it’s going to take two or three depending on the breed and the thickness of the coat," Sims said.
Sims said it helps to keep their skin nourished sometimes even adding a touch olive oil to their food can help.
"The more conditioned the skin is the more conditioned the coat. So it’s not going to be a dry brittle coat where it’s going to break off or sometimes even if a dog has poor skin they are going to shed more so a good quality of food is usually the best option to go with," Sims said.
Sims said another option would be to have your dog clipped, she said any indoor dog and be buzzed. She said at home brush your pet with a stripping brush it will pull out the under coat. And of course brushing them everyday really reduces the amount of hair that falls out. But the best thing, especially this time of year, is taking them to a professional groomer.
