Gibbs Files Complaint

The 18th district congressional race is already heating up.

Friday Republican candidate Bob Gibbs filed a complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission over a television ad being run by incumbent Democrat Zack Space’s campaign.

Gibbs says the ad is untruthful and wants it pulled. Gibbs says the ad accuses him of voting himself a pay raise and of not giving tax breaks to families. However, Gibbs says he was not a legislator when the pay raise mentioned was approved. He also says he co-authored legislation that reduced the Ohio Personal Income Tax.

Danny Friedman, the campaign manager for Zack Space’s campaign, responded to the accusations saying, “Our ad is completely accurate. When Bob Gibbs supported the budget in 2003, he supported the largest tax increase in Ohio’s history and a pay raise for himself and his fellow legislators. We stand by the Akron Beacon Journal’s reporting that the budget allowed the pay raiseto take effect. If supporting this pay increase wasn’t bad enough, he authored legislation to give special tax breaks for golf courses.
This is the ugly truth Bob Gibbs doesn’t want voters to know, but these are the facts."
