Tom's Ice Cream Bowl Award

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – One local business is receiving recognition in Appalachia Ohio for their inspiring practice of business in the area.

Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl was celebrated at the Appalachia Heritage Luncheon receiving the Appalachia Heritage Award. The award recognizes businesses and establishments for their work across the region. This year there were seven recipients, including Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, all showcased their success stories to the attendees of the luncheon.

“We’re very proud to have a Chamber member business, a heritage business for the Zanesville community, to receive the award. So it was nice for our staff to be up there with Bill Sullivan and his wife, while they received the award,” said Chamber of Commerce President, Dana Matz.

Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl has been a beloved Zanesville landmark serving ice cream and treats since 1948. Tom’s makes a big community impact, along with being a great place to eat, serving as a gathering place in Zanesville for 70 years.

“People come here to gather, people come here to share their experiences. The place hasn’t changed in 70 years, still the same tables and chairs. So it’s like nostalgia, people come back with family reunions. We’ve had wedding rehearsal dinners here, we’ve had memorial services. So people come back because they’re comfortable here, we’ve been here a long time,” said Owner of Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, Bill Sullivan.

Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl has also received nationwide attention and has contributed to the authentic tourism economy in Muskingum County.
