End of the Year Dog Agility Trials

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – You may have heard lots of barks today at the Fieldhouse Sports and Wellness Center.
There was an American Kennel Club Dog Agility Trial hosted at the center. There were over 150 dogs running the courses of all breeds and sizes. The courses are designed for all different levels. Dogs from all around the area, joined with their owners, participated in the trials where they race against a clock and navigate an obstacle course.
“It’s just a great, fun event. We have dogs here that are some of the top in the country. We have some dogs that are young and starting out and having fun. There’s all different levels of dogs that you’ll see here today and tomorrow,” said Trial Chairman of Columbus’ Golden Retriever Club, David Hirsch.
Depending on the height of the dog, they compete against dogs with their same height. Dogs placed from first to fourth place will receive a ribbon and a toy for their achievements. You also earn points towards competing in higher titles. Aside from the importance of the competition, agility trials build relationships between an owner and the dog.
“You’ll see them with a smile on their face when they’re done. The dogs love it. The bond between the dog and the owner, teammates, it’s just fantastic and it’s a lot of fun,” Hirsch added.
The Agility Trial will run again tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
