Columbia Gas Explains Gas Efficiency

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With temperatures dropping outside, that means heat is being turned up inside.
Columbia Gas of Ohio spoke with us on how their gas pipelines work and how residents receive the gas into their homes. One of their station buildings receives gas from the pipelines, then the gas is heated. There is equipment that adds odor to the gas to make sure you can smell it, in case of any leaks. And there is equipment that monitors the pressure to make sure you are getting the correct amount of gas into your home.
“On a day like today people will use about 40 percent more gas than they would on an average January day. These bitter cold temperatures, but we’re ready for these temperatures. Our team takes a lot of pride in making sure that our system is ready for these temperatures. We also have a team that monitors the pressure if anything happens,” Communications Manager of Columbia Gas, Dave Rau said.
Columbia Gas also has some tips on how to be more efficient with your gas. Such as finding natural ways of warming up the home, and making sure drafts are taken care of right away.
“We want you to open up the blinds, let that beautiful sunshine in today. We encourage you always to weather strip, weather seal around doors, cracks. If you’re feeling a draft, find out where that draft is coming from,” Rau said.
