Ohio Secretary of State Larose Visits Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Ohio Secretary of State Frank Larose visited Zanesville and discussed legislation he is trying to promote at the Statehouse and get passed.
Larose explained how the Secretary of State’s Office is responsible for safeguarding the elections and making sure that Ohioans have confidence in their elections. He wants people to know that their vote will be accurately counted and their voice will change the future of the State and the communities.
The bill Larose is working on is creating a better system for cybersecurity within Ohio. He said Ohio is already a leader in the nation in cybersecurity and election security, but this bill has four major components that will help the State continue to be a leader in the nation.
“We need to be able to respond immediately with highly trained individuals that can fix the situation. But beyond that those individuals can also work to make sure that our defenses are hardened to prevent that kind of attack from being successful. To fight and make sure our systems are properly protected,” he said.
Larose is also helping create the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission which is a bill ensuring the observance of the centennial of the 19th Amendment.
“What this bill does is create this Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission so that we can have this Statewide celebration of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which is what created the women’s right to vote in this nation,” he said.
“But it’s not just in the past, we need to talk about why that’s relevant today and why diversity in our elections, meaning everybody has a voice and everybody needs to participate, why that still matters,” he added.
Larose said his ultimate goal is to see people excited about civic engagement again especially with the nation’s eyes focusing on Ohio in the 2020 Election.
