Pool Tournament Benefits Special Olympics

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A day long billiards tournament took place at Prophet Park to raise money for a special cause.
Local and state billiards players participated in the tournament by paying an entry fee. Then they play an eight ball, double elimination, and singles tournament. All the proceeds will benefit Starlight Program’s Special Olympics.
“It’s a good way to, my way of raising money for Sandy and her group. It just hits you here for the Special Olympics. There’s a couple of them out here in the audience, and I just like to help them out,” said Event Organizer, Tim Snelling.
The Special Olympics provides sports training and competition opportunities to people with disabilities. Through the Special Olympics, they will gain confidence that carries over into the home and community. The money raised will provide funding for the medals and access to getting to the events and competitions.
“It’s really worked out well over the years. It’s just grown and grown and grown, and it’s been very, very helpful for us,” said Special Olympics Coordinator, Sandy Drenten.
Last year the tournament raised $1600. Snelling also said this tournament wouldn’t be possible without the help of local businesses who sponsored the tables.
