Ohio Treasurer Discusses Financial Literacy At Zane State College

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – State Treasurer Robert Sprague spoke today at Zane State College to discuss financial literacy, and the struggles students face financially during and after college.
April is Financial Literacy month, and Treasurer Sprague wants to get an early start looking on how Ohioans are dealing with their student debt. Nationwide, the student loan debt is a staggering one and a half trillion dollars. His goal was to find out how the state could be helping students, and what Zane State College is doing to help their students. He says that Zane State has been successful in keeping their tuition affordable, and also helping their students find good jobs after graduation.
“Zane State has been serving this community and doing a great job of keeping tuition low and providing skills for in-demand jobs. That’s what we need in Ohio. We need a lot of great jobs that are being created, and people to have the right skill sets. to be able to fill those jobs.”
The meeting was a discussion in a conference room with the Treasurer, Zane State President Chad Brown, administrators, and important community figures. Treasurer Sprague wants to find how students are managing their money, and what their plans are financially in the long run.
“Well I think were looking for ideas. How do kids look at their financial condition? How do students make decisions about school and about their career? How do they do that in a way that makes sense for them financially for the long term so that they don’t end up with a ton of debt that prevents them from buying a house, buying a car, getting married, having kids.”
Sprague says this is one of many stops he plans to take around Ohio, to talk about financial literacy.
