Area Archers Finish Strong At World Tournament

ZANESVILLE – The Muskingum Valley League came to play at 2016 National Archery in the Schools Program Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC with three archers bringing home world championships.

Maysville’s Dalton Talbert won the boys’ high school division and the overall title with a score of 299, Crooksville’s Gavin Keirns won the boys’ elementary school division with a score of 289 and Maysville’s Mathew Harper won the boys’ elementary school division 3D Challenge with a score of 290. Keirns finished third in the boys’ elementary 3D challenge with a 287 while Harper came in fourth in the boys’ elementary division with a 287.

Posting top-five finishes from the area were Tri-Valley’s Dakota Ernfield (4th/girls high school), Granville’s Allison Covey (3rd/girls middle school), Crooksville’s Hope Stickdorn (5th/girls middle school), Philo’s Cole Luburgh (2nd/boys high school 3D), Crooksville’s Larry Eyman (5th/boys high school 3D), Philo’s April Bartenschlag (3rd/girls high school 3D) and Crooksville’s Ashley Compston (4th/girls high school 3D). Ernfield also finished 5th overall.

Tri-Valley posted the best local high school team finish by coming in 17th out of 79 teams. Philo High School finished 18th, Crooksville High School finished 30th, Maysville High School finished 32nd and Granville finished 66th.

Crooksville Middle School came in 10th out of 79 teams while the Ceramics’ Elementary School team finished 32nd out of 54 teams. Maysville’s Elementary School team finished 23rd while Granville’s Middle School squad came in 63rd.

The Philo Electrics posted the top 3D team result in the area by finishing 3rd out of 40 teams in the high school division. Crooksville came in 10th and Maysville finished 27th.

In intermediate 3D action, Crooksville Middle School finished 4th out of 44 teams while Maysville Middle School settled for 29th and the Ceramics’ second team finished 42nd.

In elementary 3D competition, Maysville finished 5th out of 16 teams while the Ceramics also cracked the top 10 in 8th place.
