Area Students Show Off Projects at Science Day

Zane State College played host to some young scientists Saturday morning.

Over one hundred area students came out to the Advanced Science and Technology Center for District 9 Science Day to show off their projects. We talked with Zane State’s Katie Hooper-Boyd about the event.

“This is the third time that Zane State has hosted the event,” Hooper-Boyd said. “We have students from six different counties coming in to present their science fair projects, and today they can qualify to go to the state competition.”

A myriad of projects were on display from using fruit in place of batteries, to which detergent is most efficient. All in all, the kids were just happy to get their projects out to the public.

“When you talk to the kids they are so proud, they’re so proud of the work that they’ve done,” Hooper-Boyd said. “And I think it’s a big deal to them to be able to show their family and their friends and their teachers just how well they can do these science projects.”

The event lasted until noon, after which the children were able to attend a science expo where they could continue to learn and have some well earned fun as well.
