EMA is Seeking Tornado Siren Reimbursements

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â County Commissioners met with the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency Director Monday.
Bo Keck spoke to commissioners regarding tornado siren reimbursements. He said in the past the state and federal government reimbursed 50% of the emergency operation budget.
“Starting this year they are no longer going to reimburse us for anything similar to this without three quotes for that service. I was discussing with the commissioners at what point to we go out and get those quotes. Or does the county absorb the difference. And I think their feeling is that they do want to go out and get quotes on the maintenance on the sirens. It’s just a matter of when we choose to do that,” said Keck.
Keck said they’ve added 3 new locations for the sirens. There are 44 sirens through out the city and county.
“The only thing with this contract thing is it’s kind of a double edge sword, do we or don’t we. But when we have the opportunity to get reimbursed 50% for any contract like this. I think we need to take advantage of that if at all possible,” said Keck.
Keck said they will start testing the sirens every Wednesday at noon in March.
