ZANESVILLE, Ohio-A day of learning and sharing resources to help the community learn how to make a positive difference by helping inmates transition to restored citizens in our community.
The Restored Citizens Network is hosting a faith based summit on May 19th at Zane State-Ohio University Zanesville Campus Center. RCN is a group of dedicated corrections professional, community organization reps, and restored citizens (men and women who are released from prison and returning to their home communities).
“Just in Southeastern Ohio we have 8,131 offenders currently within our system that may come back to this community,” said Noble Correctional Institution Warden Tim Buchanan. “So these are folks that really need to be engaged and we really need to find the needs of those of those folks that are coming out, and engage them in the right way. Just in Muskingum County alone 255 men and women that are currently incarcerated in Ohio. That’s a large segment of people just from our community.”
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the program will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. And on-site volunteer training will be provided.
“We’re really trying to target on congregations within churches and really try to bring a lot of the community together. Everyone can attend we have 300 spots available for folks to attend. Lunch is free but we do require folks to register in advance,” said Buchanan.
